If you want to use a verb as a noun, then you use the run. This is a form of the verb with-ing

behind the verb word.

examples:

swimming is good for your health.                    zwemmen is goed voor je gezondheid.

she likes shopping with her friend                   ze is houd van winkelen met haar vriendin.

After a number of verbs you should use the run. These verbs often give to whether you like

something or not. also words that indicate whether something begins or ceases.

to like        leuk vinden                                        to start                          starten

to love       houden van                                       to stop                           stoppen       

to enjoy     graag doen                                        to finish                         eindigen

to prefer    liever doen / hebben                          to keep / to go on          blijven doen

to dislike   niet leuk vinden

examples

we ENJOY EATING home                             we eten graag thuis.

sonia HATES DOING the dishes.                  sonja heeft een hekel aan afwassen.

our dog KEEPS BEGGING for bones.           onze hond blijft vragen om botten.

after three hours it STOPPPED RAIN.          na 3 uur hield 't op met regenen

You must also use a gerud after prepositions.

Harold is good AT PLAYING Amerikan football                        Harold is goed in Amerikan Football.

i'm looking forward TO SEEING you.                                        ik zie er naar uit om je te zien.

She's thinking ABOUT MOVING to Spain                                 ze denkt erover om naaar spanje te verhuizen.
